CHI-GUNG & |
|
These exercises were
developed early in human history to acquire the strength, gracefulness and
agility of the animals. Each
exercise is an imitation of a tiger, eagle, crane, snake, tortoise, the
mythical dragon or other creatures. They
are based on the awareness that there is a “Life Energy” (chi) flowing
through our bodies which can be strengthened. Chi-gung is used to eliminate
stress and give you a positive, upbeat spirit.
These enjoyable yet simple exercises keep you young throughout life by
keeping the body flexible and relaxed, yet energized.
They are also called, “Age Reversal Exercises.”
You do not need to be athletic to do them and you can even practice
them while sitting in a chair. Bob Klein was taught one particular system of Chi-gung which is termed, “Spirit Breathing”. Since this term does not translate well into English, he developed the term, “Zookinesis” (animal movements), which is now his registered trademark. Zookinesis® combines flexibility exercises with stress reduction exercises; it strengthens the lungs and the joints. By making the body more flexible, the movements can help eliminate back and shoulder pains. It is an excellent complement to any other exercise, including Yoga, self-defense, aerobics and weight lifting. You will feel “brand new” after each session. While some styles of Chi-gung emphasize stationary positions, zookinesis® uses movement, some slow, some more rapid but all with joint rotation and alternate expansion and relaxation of the joints (including the vertebrae). Elasticity is restored to the body’s connective tissue, including ligaments and tendons. Connective tissue (fascia) surrounds all the organs and bones. As you age, this tissue shrinks and that hinders the body’s ability to function. Zookinesis® prevents this tissue from shrinking.
