Pilates is a mind/body exercise system of stretching, strengthening &
stabilizing the body from the center out. Pilates emphasizes core stability
of the deep postural muscles, strengthening the “Powerhouse” (abdominals,
low back, buttocks.)

While some sport & exercises can bulk up and shorten specific muscles and
cause instability in others, Pilates works the entire body, developing long,
lean, defined muscles. Our jobs and daily routines can create faulty
movement patterns and poor posture. Pilates promotes muscular balance and
corrects postural dysfunctions. Pilates enhances the way the body
functions. All movements become more graceful and efficient.

Jean teaches private classes using the Pilates apparatus. This consists of
specialized pieces of equipment to assist or provide resistance to
movements. The emphasis is on quality and control of movement, doing few
repetitions. It is low impact, gentle on the joints and creates tone,
definition and strength WITHOUT the use of heavy weights. It reduces stress
by connecting the mind and breath to the body.
